WOAH, HOLY SHIT!!!!!

as you all may know, I've been working on our crane. thirty minutes ago my helper(who is about two hundred and twenty pounds) climbs up on to it(the fenders are ten feet in the air) and decides he is going to fall off backwards. I'm watching him as he grabs a hoist strap and unhooks it as he falls backwards off the fender towards two full 55 gallon hydraulic barrels.

BLAM!!!

buddy hits his hand on the barrel as he plunges to the ground back first with the loosened strap firmly in his grasp...

DUFF.... he hits the ground on his back and with a whiplash motion smacks his head onto the compacted decomposed granite.

i put my hand on his chest to see if he is still breathing, nope....

i talk to him and tell him to "FUCKING BREATH DAMMIT!"

his eyes are open but not pointing in the same direction. one is looking over my left shoulder and the other is kind of swirling around in circles in the sky. his heart starts pounding!!!

"OH BOY, BUDDY, YOU BEST START FUCKING BREATHING"

"GASP, SNORT, BUWHAAAA..." he exhales gasping for air as blood starts oozing from his nose...

"keep on breathing asshole..." i say while frowning at him...

"fuck you, my back hurts... " he replies and tries focusing in on my face.

"yeah, good. you just fell like ten feet. remember that?"

"yeah, i do, my back..." he groans and closes his eyes...

"keep your fucking eyes open and stay still. do you want some water?"

we shoot the shit for a minute and he lets go of the strap finally. hes bleeding from his hand a bit and wipes the blood from his nose... he lifts his legs and turns his head and i help him roll over onto his side.

"hey, help me up..."

"fuck you... you think i want my back to hurt as well?"

we go into the office and i sit him down and give him some water. call the health center and they are out to lunch... I'll be leaving to take him there in a few minutes...

ever seen anybody "knocked the fuck out"? crazy shit man.... have a good weekend all!!!

Hi Suzanne...

I've seen someone knocked out cold too and it is some scary stuff. I was working at scorers table during a minor-league hockey game when the goalie raced out of his crease, charged another player, and with a high stick to the neck flattened this player to the ice. His head snapped back too and he laid there motionless as the doctors and EMT's worked on him. I thought he might have been paralyzed or dead. He spent the night in the hospital and was released the next morning to catch up with his team.

Turns out the two players had a bad history with one another and that's the reason the goalie charged him without provocation.

I've knocked a few people out cold. No, I'm not a violent person. One time it was in self defense and it happened with an iron skillet, and the other time the person was so drunk that it didn't really take that much effort. (and technically that time was self defense too.) But, I hope your co-worker is ok. Damn, that is a bit of excitment that you could probably have done without today! Have a great weekend.

nup, never seen anyone knocked out or knocked anyone out.... seems i live a very sheltered life.

i liked your comments on green-ness. i like to think i'm a bit eco concious but i'm also aware that i'm nowhere near green enough. anyway, green, red or purple there's no need to be self righteous. i hate that

hope you have a great weekend

I've seen someone knocked out, oh yes indeedy. Disturbing. Then again, I've also seen folks die...they're both unnerving in sort of the same way...

I reiterate: you're obviously the go-to guy for an emergency! I really respect that about you.

Hedgehog came home Thursday with the exciting news that her friend fainted on the playground. But I guess fainting is less violent than being knocked out. Still weird, though!

I don't belong here any more, but after reading this have to leave a comment. I'm glad he's okay.

I love you Zack, but I won't be back. Have a wonderful life.

yup; kid was sliding down a ramp on some ice and whammed right into a metal pole. broke his leg at the thigh, massive fracture, and the pain+the impact knocked him out cold. first person i've ever seen turn literally green.

lord, my fingers are crossed for everyone involved in this one.

OUCH! THAT HURT! Yes I saw my brother knock himself out when we were little tackers. He was climbing a steel ladder on a slide and slipped - his head seemed to connect with every other rung as he fell to the ground. I've also knocked myself out - twice. Once when I came off a push bike. Lucky for me I was wearing a bike helmet - or I wouldn't have lived to tell the tale. The second time was when I went outside my backyard and walked straight into the cast iron hanging bird feeder my dear wife had hung in a tree but didn't tell me about.

I hope that your buddy is okay now.

Cheers and beers,
Mark.

MJ knock it off. Don't be a fair weather friend, be a real one. I adore you so don't take sides. Just be a friend. I know we both love you equally, so don't disappoint me and pick a side. Please. I visited your blog Thursday night and hit Filthy Friday. Jeasus Christ. Warn a girl when you post early. Damn. See, I love you. Who in the hell would put up with crap like that unless they love you? And I do, so please be generous and kind.

I.V., I forgive you. Do you hear that? I forgive you. Why you did this I will never know, nor do I care, but I forgive you. I'm moving on because there're no other place to go. I blew it big time, but you blew it worse. Somewhere in the middle two assholes meet. I assume you know that. The fact you wouldn't even come to apologize speaks volumes. I'm the bigger man. Who knew? And I'm a woman. Why is it so hard for guys to admit mistakes? You made a huge one, but I love you and I'm willing to overlook a whole heap of crap. Brian deserved exactly what he got. Do I regret my words? Of course. Do I regret my words? No, of course not. See, it's a toss up. I wrote them 16 days ago dude. 16 days and suddenly they became important yesterday. Why? They were written the day after my accident. Where were all of you then? Where was he? And all his friends? 16 days. I'm not a moron you know. So don't do me an injustice by thinking I am. Life has become a bit more brilliant. It's amazing what a good wack in the head does. Thanks.

And Zack, you owe me an apolgy. I love you and I'm willing to overlook so much shit. You owe me an apology. So I'm waiting. You are my friend and you broke my heart. So I'm waiting. I can not imagine you would abandon me because I would never abandon you. Never.

Suzanne, you are so easy to wind up and that's why I enjoy teasing you.

DUDE! What's up?! Man, have I missed you dear one! Damn...that had to leave a mark (your bud falling)! Was he really ok? I think I would have left him there until medics came to make sure the back was not broken...eeekkk!
Glad to see everyone! Come round and say HELLO!
Hugs,

MJ,

Zack, excuse me for using your blog as my venue! I do wind up easily. What are we going to do about that honey because I've gotta stop. Doctor's order. Shit just bugs me. And no, I knew you wouldn't go away, I love you too much. And trust me baby, anyone whose gone through Filthy Friday by accident deserves some damn respect!!! And yes, I know you love me too. And yes, I looked at every photo!

And Zack, no apology needed. Shit happens. I still love you to death no matter what. We just had a disageeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeement! But hopefully it's over. I need to relax over the next few weeks and hopefully you'll play a roll. I consider you a very dear friend and I can't imagine life without you, so please expand your mind and think about what's really important. I honestly love you and that should matter for something.

Oh dear Suzanne,
If your waiting for an apology it might take a while.
IV doesn't apologize because he's never wrong...
trust me, better to just let bygones be bygones.
Just a little aside from the peanut gallery.
